Pluto

Pluto, Eris, Haumea, and MakeMake

The largest of the Kuiper Belt Objects are Pluto, Eris, Haumea, and MakeMake. These objects are often called Dwarf Planets due to their size and lack of prominent atmosphere. In addition, Kuiper Belt Objects have extreme, eccentric orbits that usually do not fall in the same orbital plane as the rest of the planets in our Solar System.

In addition to the Dwarf Planets, the Kuiper Belt is composed of numerous Comets, Asteroids, and gases. So far there has only been one successful mission to the Kuiper Belt, New Horizons. Due to its extreme distance it took 9.6 years for New Horizons to reach pluto, the nearest known world in the Kuiper Belt.
